As you know, there is a huge Japanese castle built by Hideyoshi Toyotomi in the center of Osaka City. It’s called “Osaka-Jo”. But few people know that a barbershop owner made his own castle in Higashi-Osaka. The name of the castle is “Kosaka-Jo” because it is in the Kosaka area of Higashi-Osaka. I’ve visited there almost ten years ago while touring on my motorcycle.
The exterior of the first floor is just an old-style Japanese barbershop, but you can find little tiled roofs on the top of the building. It’s a self-built castle that Mr. Isono, the owner of the shop, likes to brag about. I asked him if I could visit the inside of it and he accepted my request willingly. The tour started from the other side of the shop door, it was their private entrance. The lord of Kosaka Castle guided me to the inside of his home and I found a real Japanese-style living room with self-painted sliding doors. There were cranes, turtles, and pines on the Fusuma.
